I have…when they’ve been “handled” by my little ones! If you find the DVD’s surface opposite the label marred with fingerprints, spots or dirt, here’s my tip to get your DVDs playing again.
Step 1 - Rinse gently with warm water
Place the DVD under a stream of warm water and applying only your fingertips or a soft cloth (no sponges or scrubbing pads), work the water onto the disc’s surface. PLEASE NOTE: Always work in straight lines from the center to the outer edge, and do not use your fingernails to try to remove foreign materials.
Step 2 - Clean with mild soap
Using a small amount of liquid hand soap (not anything used in a dish washer), gently rub across the surface. You should feel any irregularities, and the soap should remove them.
Step 3 - Rinse and dry
Thoroughly rinse both sides free of any soap residue — then dry the DVD thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. (I like using one of my old white t-shirts!)
Step 4 - Test and see!
Place the clean, completely dry DVD into your DVD player. If it still doesn’t play back properly, you can always take advantage of Disney’s “Disc Replacement Program” and replace damaged DVDs for just $6.95. Visit Disney Studios Help and click on “Disc Replacement Program" .
Happy Clear Viewing!
