Yellowstone Cubs

...I'm so sure your family will enjoy Yellowstone Cubs I guarantee it!

In my role as manager of the Disney Movie Club, I love finding hidden treasures to bring to DVD for our valued members. As a father of two and a “Disney Dad,” I’m always on the lookout for fun things I can do with my girls (ages 6 and 3).

Recently we added “Yellowstone Cubs,” part of the long-running Wonderful World Of Disney series, as an exclusive Club title. The movie brought back a flood of great memories growing up with my family. The Wonderful World Of Disney was a major event on Sunday evenings, and with TV dinners in tow we anxiously awaited the opening musical montage.

As for my own kids, both my 3-year-old and 6-year-old loved it. They laughed at the same parts I did, and found the same charm of a simple story set in nature. Sure, some of the scenes in “Yellowstone Cubs” are a bit “campy” (pardon the pun), but hearing narrator Rex Allen was like listening to an old friend, and the mischief-making cubs and their mother’s devotion remind us all of a simpler, wonderful time.

Yellowstone Cubs - Movie Reviews from Disney Dads One word of caution: Please make it clear to your kids NOT to do what the tourists did in this movie. Bears, while cute, can be extremely dangerous. No bear-kissing allowed!

My dad, the avid fisherman, passed his love for the outdoors to his own children. I fondly remember our trips to Wild River campground in New Hampshire all those years ago. My 6-year-old daughter loves to fish — it's one of our favorite things to do together. I also remember fighting with my brothers for the coveted front seat, but that's another story.

Likewise, it has really been fun to revisit these Wonderful World Of Disney programs with my girls. They're still as entertaining as they were when I was a kid, gathered around the TV set with my family or parked at the Drive-in Theater in Plainville, Massachusetts (okay, I know I'm dating myself).

Some of my other favorite Disney stories include “A Tiger Walks,” which is all about a young girl’s determination to save a magnificent and mistreated Bengal tiger, starring the always excellent Brian Keith, and “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken” — a heartwarming real-life story about a young girl’s determination to follow her dreams despite the odds.
