Save That Tiger!

In the tradition of a true Disney Live-action classic, A Tiger Walks (1965) is a wonderful family adventure that will have your family on the edge of their seats. With an all-star cast – Brian Keith (TV's Family Affair), Kevin Cochran (Swiss Family Robinson, Old Yeller) and Vera Miles, to name a few – A Tiger Walks tells the story of the small town of 'Scotia' that is abuzz with excitement when a traveling wild animal show comes to town. That excitement turns to chaos when the heartless animal trainer teases a caged tiger and allows it to escape! The trainer does his best to track down the tiger, but sadly for the cruel man, the tiger finds him first.

Note: (While his demise is handled with great care so as not to overwhelm the younger set, you may want to alert your kids in advance).

The death of the trainer sends the townspeople into a panic, and they are quickly overrun by the media and the National Guard. While all the "grown-ups" – the Army, police and even the governor – are trying to track down the tiger and shoot it on sight, the Sheriff's daughter captures the hearts of children across the country when she tells the news media that she wants capture the tiger alive and find a home for it in the local zoo. Her appeal to save the innocent tiger starts a nationwide campaign to "save that tiger!" – you know the song… “Save that Tiger! Save that Tiger...” And thus begins a race to find the tiger with different ends in mind.

My 5- and 9-year old daughters thoroughly enjoyed A Tiger Walks – though my younger daughter needed to be reassured during some of the more tension-filled moments in the film (Are they going to hurt the tiger, Daddy?"). As a dad, it was great to snuggle up on the sofa with my kids and watch a Disney classic. I can't think of of a better way to spend a night at the movies with my family.
