Dads to Dads Tips

Dad Tip #1 - Movie Night With Easy Snacks!

Uh-oh, it’s another Saturday afternoon.  The kids are bored.  Mom’s exhausted.  Guys, it’s time to come up with something fun to do.  But WHAT?  Don’t stress  -- a family event doesn’t have to be anything huge.  Kids just love having time with their dad.

Movie Night!

A “movie night” at home is always a surefire hit.  It’s like going to the drive-in -- without the car.  Have the kids choose a couple of Disney DVDs from your collection, or conveniently get new ones from Disney Movie Club, for a fun “double feature.” Tell them to invite their best buddies over, and get ready for the Saturday night smiles!

Easy Dinner and Snacks

Snacks are critical for a successful movie night!  And since dad is doing the cooking, it should be easy.  Why not send out for pizza?  Easy!  Done!  For dessert – it’s got to be tasty chocolate S’mores.

How To Make Chocolate S’mores

To make S’mores, you will need:  a box of graham crackers, 4 sheets of aluminum foil, two chocolate bars, and a bag of marshmallows.  The leftover marshmallows can be eaten during the movie.

Let the kids assemble their own S’mores, stacking the chocolate and marshmallows in between two crackers.  Once assembled, Dad puts them in the oven broiler, on medium-hot, loosely wrapped inside tin foil.  Cook five minutes or until marshmallows are melted. Delicious!

Just follow these instructions for an extremely fun family and friends event that will be talked about for decades!

Dad Tip #2 - "Dad" Night: Family Dinners Together!

What Happened To Family Time?

These days, everyone has a lot going on. Softball practice, karate, homework, laundry...hold on! What happened to spending time TOGETHER? "Family time" has gotten lost somewhere. What can we do about it? Eat dinner!

The Benefits Of Dining Together

There's a lot of wisdom to a family simply sitting down and sharing meals. Kids raised with dinners and conversation as part of their routine tend to experience less bickering, less substance abuse, less trouble all around! Yes, all this just from having dinner together. Families who stay in close communication just do better.

Planning Ahead

Great news! Dinners together can be a lot of fun. Dedicate at least one night of the week to a family dinner. Sunday nights are great and a little easier to manage Make a "Dad" dinner the kids can help prepare, like spaghetti or "breakfast" for dinner. Then, make it a commitment. Everything else must be scheduled around DAD’S DINNER NIGHT. No exceptions!

Everybody Gets A Turn

During dinner, Dad can be the conversation starter. Take turns letting each person talk, even the littlest family member. Choose a topic, like a favorite book, character or Disney movie, and have each family member share his or her thoughts. Once the family gets going, everyone will be eager to have their turn!

The bonding that takes place during special mealtimes is incredibly valuable and fun. It’s really worth it to make the time to be together.
